She Rides Seminars

Jasmin Doobay
Our MC for the evening is Motorcygalz' Jasmin Doobay!
Enthusiastic motorcyclist, radio personality and motorcycle journalist.
Adrienne Denham
Adrienne Denham just recently completed a 33,000km, solo and unsupported, motorcycle adventure through South America, on her Suzuki DR 650 (named Dirk). The trip took seven months and Adrienne traveled off-road through rivers, jungles, along the world's most dangerous road and experienced bike-stopping mechanical difficulties in the world's largest salt flat (where she had to push her bike to safety!).

About 600 people followed her trip on Facebook, including the Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Riders Club. Since returning home she has been featured as a speaker at the Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club and Horizon's Unlimited Western Canada meeting, and her story will be included in an upcoming Road Heroes video.

Adrienne brings to the stage humour, humility, and a real sense of adventure; she enjoys sharing her story because she feels it was amazing in every way - and sharing it helps her hold on to the excitement. It's a story of hardcore motorcycle riding, finding out what it's like to ride alone, being strong, and of wonderful roads in South America.

Adrienne will be presenting her story in our Travel Seminars and also the She Rides Nite Seminars.
Victoria (Tory) Hett
First Canadian Woman to Finish and Medal at the ISDE
27-year old Tory Hett, one of the top female professional off-road riders in the world, returns to the 2012 Vancouver Motorcycle Show. Victoria ‘Tory’ Hett will be riding in the Enduro-X as she prepares for the ‘Olympics of Motorcycling’ – the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE).

In 2011, Tory has raced the PNWMA series, the Okanagan series, the Canadian Enduro Championships, and a few endurocross events in the U.S.  She also qualified for the ISDE in Mexico and became the first Canadian woman to finish and take home a medal – winning a bronze.  Her plan for 2012 is to fly to Germany and compete in the ISDE again, with the ultimate goal of bringing home the gold.

Tory has graced the cover of Inside Moto X Magazine and won the Desert 100 Women’s Class.  The Canadian racer says that 2012 will be her busiest year and she is excited to ride at the 2012 Vancouver Motorcycle Show to raise awareness for team Canada and the women’s trophy team.

You can see Tory ride on Saturday January 21st and Sunday January 22nd as part of the events line up at the 2012 Show.

Susan Van Luyn
Stop Saying "Someday" and Get Going Today!
Susan is a 43 year old mother of two teens who got her motorcycle licence 2 years ago.  (This year will be her third year on the road).  Her first experience with bikes was trying to ride “off-road” on a dirtbike in her late teens/early 20’s  When her kids were little, they all got dirt-bikes.  She was riding a Yamaha TW200 at the time and quite enjoyed the freedom and challenge of learning how to ride. She loved that bike.
As time wore on, the dirt-bikes saw less dirt and more sitting, so her husband decided to sell them.  Susan continued to enjoy her passenger rides, but hubby got more and more itchy for her to get her own wheels.  After years of discussing getting her own bike, she finally agreed to try a scooter.  She had no doubts about her ability, since she now had experience in the dirt, however, the thought of being so exposed and vulnerable in traffic really un-nerved her.  The scooter offered an inexpensive way to try two wheeled transport on for size.

Within a couple of months Susan felt comfortable on the road, so the next step was obvious… to find a bike AND a motorcycle school.  The Vancouver motorcycle show was the perfect venue to check out the bikes and schools.  The rest is history.  Open Road was the school of choice for many reasons, and a second hand, Kawasaki Ninja 250 became  Susan's trusted mount.  That year-2010-, after getting her licence,Susan and her husband did a circle tour from Chilliwack through Whistler, Duffy Lake Road, and back home through the Fraser Canyon.  It was awesome!  In 2011 it was the Sunshine Coast in a group ride, and up to 100 Mile on her own, and then a new MotoGuzzi.  Wonderful! Even the commute to work (Chilliwack to Surrey) is fun when you’re on TWO WHEELS!!
Karen Cracknell
Karen's first solo ride was on a small dirt bike the boys used as a runabout in the cow pastures.  She'd ridden plenty of times — on the back, holding on for dear life, and enjoying every minute of it! She'd watched, and helped, take it apart and put it back together so often, she figured she knew as much as they did - how hard could it be to ride a bike?

Fast forward many years and it was  time to stop thinking and start doing. For her birthday, she purchased riding lessons from Open Road; she wanted to ride, and also wanted to be safe not suicidal. The classes were informative, interesting, fun, exhilarating and very humbling.  She became one of those in the group (actually three groups by the time she'd finished) that required more instruction. She was not afraid or stupid.. she couldn't believe something she had been so good at as a kid, would be so difficult 40 years later. After failing her test 3 times, she is still working on getting through this process: come and find out what is keeping Karen going and why she is STILL going to take her test again, and finally pass!
