Pacific Coast Mini Roadrace Club
The Pacific Coast Mini Roadrace Club is an amateur motorcycle roadracing organization and the Lower Mainland’s mini-road racing community. The PCMRC has been in continuous existence since 1990, currently promoting racing at Greg Moore Raceway, a Kart track in Chilliwack. Our riders are of all ages (7 and up), gender and abilities. We race in a closed environment with a focus on safety, camaraderie and sportsmanship. The club promotes on-pavement use of small motorcycles for fun and entertainment. Club members range from those with limited experience to those with significant on and off-road racing experience. Club members currently range in age from 8 to 60ish. The club offers several classes utilizing different motorcycles as authorized by the Canadian Motorcycle Association within the parameters of mini-road racing. We operate in a non-profit manner striving to minimize member costs while ensuring a viable, economically stable association.
Current rules allow for two-stroke engine displacements up to 93cc (scooters 200cc), and four-stroke engine displacements up to 250cc. Common two-stroke machines include Yamaha YSR50s and 80s, Honda NSR50RRs and 85cc motocross (dirt) bikes fitted with slick tires as well as GP 125s with 85cc 2 stroke liquid cooled engines or 150cc 4 stroke liquid cooled engines transplanted in them. Four-stroke classes include a “Thunder” class, based on current 100 – 125cc dirt bikes, raced with limited modifications other than street tires being added. Additionally “Pit-bike” classes exist, with bikes based on 125cc pit bikes. The Honda CBR125 is currently raced both within our club, and nationally in conjunction with the Parts Canada Superbike series; Scooters and Mini-Moto (pocket bikes) also compete.
The race season runs from April to September and we race rain or shine. The PCMRC will hold multiple local races during this time, plus as a club we will attend as many regional race weekends as possible. On average there are 8 races each season. We also arrange Test & Tune sessions at the Greg Moore Race facility throughout the year on Wednesdays for a nominal drop in fee.
The PCMRC mini-road racing is exactly like big bike racing. The racing lines, acceleration and braking is all to scale of a full size road courses but without the top speed. Racing a bike of these sizes lets you go out have a great day of road-racing without the fear of being seriously injured. There are points for each race, and trophies will be awarded at the end of the year. It does not take a new bike or a lot of money to be competitive in our club. It is one of the cheapest forms of racing in the Lower Mainland. Our club is really out to have a good time and a little bit of friendly competition. Come on out and race!
